Friday, August 27th, 2010

Dustbowl Arts Market, Norman, OKIt’s time for the Dustbowl Arts Market!

This Saturday, in Campus Corner (Norman, OK), enjoy art and accessories from the area’s most talented and crafty people. Birdie, Cut Out and Collect, Collected Thread, DNA Galleries, Jem Jam, Bombs Away, Quid, & Wild Hare Beadery will all be making an appearance at this stellar event!

I’ll be there in the morning so that I have time to visit all of my favorite Campus Corner stores and the Crimson & Whipped Cream Bakery too—

Best of OKC – Best Accessories & Gifts

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010
Accessories & Gifts are broad categories. Home accessories? Clothing accessories? Gifts for your mom? Wedding Gifts? Baby Gifts?
I have decided to combine these categories into one post since I feel like they overlap. In no particular order, here are the nominees:
  • Blue 7: This is the fourth/fifth time I’ve written about Blue 7 during the 2010 Best of OKC Ballot reviews. They carry both home and clothing accessories, which make great gifts! Many of their home items are humorous or satirical—  I can thoroughly appreciate that. This is a great destination for fun office decor or little gadgets. Also, Check out the watches next time you’re in there. I have accomplished several new-sunglasses and dangle-y charm necklace missions at Blue 7 as well. *Accessories & Gifts nominee
  • Collected Thread: Light and whimsy, Collected Thread is a nest of handmade goodies. From onesies to notecards, tees, candles and soaps, they have a wonderful selection of accessories. I especially fancy these new prints and headbands. If you haven’t stopped in to meet Lindsay, Collected Thread’s owner, do it! *Accessories & Gifts nominee
  • DNA Galleries: DNA focuses more on art and urban creations than Collected Thread, but still incorporates handmade products into their merchandise. I really like their Oklahoma City magnets and a snarky bad parking notes (Ask Amanda, she will point these out). DNA is also nominated in the Best Art Gallery category. *Accessories nominee
  • Lush Fashion Lounge: I feel the same way about Lush in the accessories category as I did about Blue 7 in the Shoe category: I would prefer to see them win a Women’s or Men’s category over the accessories category. Do you have any experience with Lush accessories? Leave a comment on this post and let me know. *Accessories nominee
  • On A Whim: As a popular place for wedding registries, On A Whim boasts a ton of kitchen accessories and wedding-gift-appropriate pieces. This is my destination for deluxe paper napkins. Sounds strange, but they have an amazing selection. Their website has a complete list of their designers for both home, clothing and baby. I can’t wait to see On A Whim’s new location in Classen Curve this fall. *Accessories & Gifts nominee
  • BC Clark: Although primarily a jeweler, BC Clark does sell high-end home and kitchen accessories, notably Vera Wang, Waterford, Beatriz Ball and Lenox. *Gifts nominee
  • Craig’s Emporium: If there was a Most Unique Gift category, Craig’s would definitely win. Inscense, little water features, candles, jewelry, wind chimes, etc… Craig’s is mysterious and fun. Don’t just visit during the Paseo festival every year… *Gifts nominee

Absent from the list: Bebe’s, Pippin and Pearl, The French Cowgirl, Antique Garden, Tulips and Cloverleaf.
